Thanks to my talented sister Sharon who made a new blog header for me! I love owls.

  1. I don't know if this is the best place to leave a question. But I have a 6 month old baby who I can't get to sleep through the night anymore. He was sleeping through the night till he was a little over 4 months old and now he has been waking up 2-3 times each night! Sometimes I am able to just go in a tuck him in again and he will go back to sleep but the majority of the time I have to nurse him back to sleep. I at first thought he was teething but its been 2 months now and no teeth have come through. He has been eating solids since for about 3 weeks now. So I don't know what to do anymore. He gets about 2-3 naps each day but they only last for 45 min each. So any advice you could give me would be great so I can get him to sleep through the night again! Thank you

  2. Jeff, Crystal & Hudson,
It is possible he might need to wake once to eat at this age (I mean, if his night sleep is for 12 hours) but shouldn't need more than that, many babies can even get by without that regardless of solid intake (assuming, obviously that they are getting their milk in the day). I would try to drop one feed at a time leaving him with just one feed (you can work on that later if you want too). I would probably go in when he wakes like you normally do but not feed him no matter what. It will be hard for a few days, but often once you stop feeding they get out of the habit of waking for that food. There are other ideas on how to do this on the night waking post. If you look over the post and everything seems to be right, he might need some sort of sleep training to help him get back on track.

It is hard to say why he is suddenly waking. But if he is getting only 2 45 minute naps some days, that certainly can't help. Sleep begets sleep, and a tired baby in the day often doesn't sleep well at night.

    Good luck!
    Rachel
