Naps - General info and problem solving

  1. Hi Rachel, I tried searching all through your site for help with naps and separation anxiety but I didn't find anything - ANY help or advice you have would be so appreciated. I have an almost 10 month old boy - He used to get up multiple times a night and so we decided about 2 months ago to do the gradual waiting Ferber method, which worked after about a week, he may get up 2-3x a night now looking for his binky, but if I just go in and stick it back in, he'll fall right back asleep - he sleeps generally from 8pm-5 or 6am (really wish I could get him to sleep longer at night as well!) but the main issue is naps - I used to just hold him in my arms for naps since he cried every time I set him down and I didn't want him to wake up my 2 year old who was also napping, but enough is enough - I finally was able to set him down in his crib after rocking him to sleep, but he now has a severe separation anxiety and he knows when I leave the room, and just wails. I tried again the Ferber method for naps, but nothing is working. The one adjustment I've made is moving him downstairs to the pack in play for naps since I don't want his screaming to wake up my toddler, but I am just at a loss of what to do next. He just gets himself so worked the second I start to leave his side that there is no chance of him calming down - he would (and has) screamed for an hours time (after multiple checks) - I'm tired and at a loss for what to do! He'll nap for 30 minutes in the morning, and has started waking after 15-20 minutes for his mid-day nap which used to last 2 hours and is literally down to barely nothing now - it's as if he has his first REM cycle and declares "ok.. I'm done napping!" and cannot fall back asleep unless he's in my arms. Again - thank you so much for any advice you may have!

  2. My 2 year old seems to be having separation anxiety as well. I would love any advice also. I hate when he wakes up sobbing calling for me. It is different than nightmares and night terrors, he has those sometimes, this is just him sad that I'm not there. He does it during the day also.
