I started this method tonight with my 5 month old little girl. After putting her to bed at 6:30 pm she surprised me when she was asleep by 7:15. This is after I have been rocking and or feeding her to sleep. I only had to go into her 3 times. Each time it got closer to the point for me to go in she would wind down and stop. I know this is the first night but I am keeping a positive mindset to this and keep saying to myself that it will work. I cannot go on feeding her to sleep every hour or 2 hours. I also have a 6 year boy and it's getting to the point where I can't concentrate. I know that I may be in for some hard times over night as I haven't stopped the night feedings but I know she can go up to 7 hours without one so my plan is to not feed before 3 hours and play it by ear. I will let her guide me up a point. Hopefully I can post more positive things about this method at a later time. Tired mum from down under :o)
Sarah, That is really impressive for night one! Some kids really catch on quick. She may regress a little here and there (called an extinction burst) but if you keep consistent, she'll get it. I bet she can even give you longer than 7 hours--but if she's used to eating every 1-2, then you can slowly move the feeds back to give her time to transfer the feeds to the day. Let us know how it goes! Hopefully you'll be able to come back and report you're no longer tired! (although, with two kids, you'll likely always be a bit tired!). Enjoy the sun for me--it is cold where I'm at!
